This will be fun. And gut wrenching. The 5 bucks was to get your attention. There is a lot here to sell and share. I am only permitted 10 Pics so I posted what I can and I have pics for everything being sold. I doing this in 3 separate listings - Reels, Rods & Sunglasses so look for all three. Rods and reels are meant to be paired together so act fast and get a killer vintage set up. If interested stop by to see them or DM me for more. Rods are very hard to photograph and are best seen in person. My pics were for expediency not awards so please contact me to ask for details and they will be provided.
I own a lot of gear. Those of you that know me from past sales, real life, IG @Gladesman1 or the forums know I am passionate about fishing and from my most extreme exotic adventures to my most basic back yard haunts, I have gear for every occasion. In duplicate. Or more. Sometimes my curiousity for the newest reproduces at a rate faster than I can use and that creates opportunity for you. Except where otherwise noted these are Items purchased by me as new, well serviced and maintained, and lovingly used. All will be sold.
The items that were not mine from new belonged to local fishing legend, Master Angler (Miami Beach Rod & Reel Club) and my long time mentor Robert Skip Keiser. (they will be marked SK in the descriptions) When he passed, I inherited same and kept the gear I used most often with him and some old Fin Nor fly reels as a remembrance. The rest I won't have a need for and want to pass it down to those that will appreciate and use same. It's what he would of wanted. If a fishing rod they've been cleaned, and if a reel, they have been serviced and had the drags upgraded to Carbon Discs where available.
Owning something of Skip's regardless of battle scars is to own a piece of fishing history. Most were state of the art at the time - Circa mid 90's - and were either used offshore for sailfish on the renowned Contender Cottonseed II, or in the back country for Baby tarpon on his highly custom Carolna Skiff. Both rigged by another legend - John Herman. About the time the club closed and I went to law school, Skip stopped fishing and the gear was stored until it passed to me. Skip lived life to the fullest, smoking, drinking, fishing, racing cars, shooting, and growing roses sometimes all at once and usually in no particular order. Regrettably he died in a Motorcycle accident a few years ago at 75. Kicking cancer, drinking and smoking multiple times he went out as he came in - a force to be reckoned with.
Except for some bass fishing with me, Skipper didn't do much else that wasn't sail fishing in the winter and tarpon fishing in the spring/summer. His gear is heavily to lightly used, but given the historic context and who owned it, it doesn't really matter. When someone from the Justice League views THOR's hammer they don't ever inquire about the scars of battle, they just know it will work when needed and appreciate they are in the presence of something of the gods, and whose strength comes from hard won battles past. Your fish catching Karma will soar with every cast.
Those that have purchased from me before can attest to the gear I've sold, its description and condition.
REELS:
Ross Fly Reel Copper CLA 3. (5-7 WT) This made in USA reel was purchased by me around 2008 and used most often in the back country and canals for Peacocks, LMB, snook, tarpon, jacks and the occasional redfish. I used it principally by land and in my canoe opting for this reel rather than my high dollar Nautilus' in places where I perceived they could get banged around. Fortunately for you that never happened and this reel presents as new. Copper was a rare color only made a year or two and is widely sought after by collectors and users of this size reel. lightweight, good looking and with what I believe is a sealed drag. Has been bulletproof. Comes with backing but not line. $150 OBO.
BOTH REELS SOLD ! Shimano Metanium DC XG Right hand retreive(there are 2 each one is the price listed below. Will make a deal on the pair) as it should be! One of the few reels left still made in Japan by Shimano. When it debuted and thru today the Metanium DC's were viewed to be among the lightest and highest tech plug reels ever made. from largemouth in the deep south to tournament tailing reds, the Metanium has caught them all. Originally imported from Japan before their USA debut I paid 500 + for these reels by memory. The specs on these reels are insane. 8.5:1 gear ratio reeling in 36 inches per full crank. Your fish is a full yard closer with every full rotation of the handle. That will pull the bass from the reeds or the snook from the mangroves. at 6.7 oz you can cast al day with out getting tired. 9 BB + 1 Roller bearing, X ship gear system has no lag, Shimano Supper Free casts a mile, Super stopper anti reverse, Quick fire II clutch system, i-DC brake system is electronic and casts a mile with minimum of back lash and the coolest sound you have ever heard, Hagane body is extremely light and rigid at the same time, precision spool, and Micromodule gears. It also has S A-RB bearings which are very rust resistant. The DC brake system is a wonder in the fishing world. Its like the ABS on your car or the regenerative braking on an EV. The Zing on these reels on a cast is a marvel to be heard. Guides and buddies will envy you and the fish will fear you with a solid hook set and a strong drag. Presents as new in box with bag and each is spooled with Braid. I believe its 30lb. $295 each OBO
Shimano Calcutta 200 (SK) Skip and I loved these reels and used them extensively during our Rod and Reel Club days. Made in Japan vintage. This reel comes in its original box with the original oil and tools. The 200 was the 15 reel and used used for 15 lb test competitions for fish taking on plug to R & R Club rules. This was the smoothest casting reel of its day and still holds its own braid or mono. The reel has a few mars from use but those are the scars of a reel that brought many a tarpon to hand and won many a tournament. 5.0 :1 gears, a 9.7 oz weight, a twin power handle from the factory, a one pice machine cut frame anodized for long lasting wear salt or fresh, an aluminum spool and a recessed reel foot were all features that make this a sought after vintage classic then and now. $150 OBO
Shimano Calcutta 100 (SK) Skip and I loved these reels and used them extensively during our Rod and Reel Club days. Made in Japan vintage. The 100 was the 8 reel and used used for 8 lb test competitions for fish taking on plug to R & R Club rules. This was rarer than the 200 and the reel we used to take many a club record for plug casters. Later when we bass fished together this reel was well known for its ability to pull out the big ones at our favorite Location X honey holes. This was the smoothest casting reel of its day and still holds its own braid or mono. The reel has a few mars from use but those are the scars of a reel that brought many a fish to hand and won many a tournament. high cranking gears, light weight, a twin power handle from the factory, a one pice machine cut frame anodized for long lasting wear salt or fresh, an aluminum spool and a recessed reel foot were all features that make this a sought after vintage classic then and now. $125 OBO
Shimano Triton Charter Special TR2000 Lever Drag (SK) (there are two price is for each one individually but I will make a deal on a pair) All I know about these reels is they are awesome. These are the made in Japan version and were hard to get even when they were popular bc of the level wind feature made a few years. In tournament fishing with the R & R their black colors stood out agains the coast guard orange back drop of the Cottonseed II. Skip and his lucky guests caught countless sailfish over many seasons with these reels and forever etched in my head are the words wind Chuck wind ! WIND WIND WIND! God Damn it! keep winding Winding against the first run as the kite broke free from the bite to keep the slack out. It's how we hooked pinnochio before the days of circle hooks ! These reels had a level wind system that never failed or backlashed from casting the ballyhoo to tagging the billfish boat side, 3 ball bearings to keep it smooth, a 4.2 :1 gear ratio to crank them in, and up to 300 yards of 20 lb mono to give enough runway to anything that swam the ocean. Reels have been serviced and drags upgraded. They are ready for battle for many seasons to come. $175 each OBO
