Thank you for viewing my listing. It's not too early to get ready for crabbing season!!! These are homemade, 600' crabbing trotlines using premium materials. Please see details below regarding the components, and the Q&A section for commonly asked questions - thank you!
About the rope: 1/4" "medium lay" 3-strand twisted rope measuring 600' long. This is the same exact rope used by commercial and "hardcore" crabbers.
About the snood: 1/8"+ snoods measuring approximately 5"-6" long. Spacing is approximately 6' between snoods.
About the clips: Brass #2 snap swivel clips attached to both ends of the trotline using a bowline knot.
Q: Why do you have an infographic with a red circle and arrow?
A: The red circle section is what you are purchasing.
Q: What does medium-lay mean?
A: From time to time you will find yourself getting bunched up or tangled. This line will "shake out" and your won't have a birds nest on your hands.
Q: Can I go crabbing now that I purchased your trotline?
A: You will need chain, buoys, anchors, and anchor line in addition to the trotline.
Q: Where can I get the other stuff needed - I want to go crabbing!?
A: I'm happy to sell you 1/4" 3 stand braided rope (just like the main trotline) for $.25/foot for your anchor lines. I will be selling chain by the foot in the next month or so, however, you can pick up galvanized 3/16" chain at any of the box home improvement stores. Anchors are typically 10-15# mushroom anchors, or you can use old car rotors and anything heavy. Buoys can be made with 5 gallon buckets, kitty litter jugs, or just about anything that floats (but keep in mind your local regulations - in Maryland, both buoys must be the same size, color, and shape, and be a minimum of 12" in diameter).
Q: I'm a newb to trotline crabbing. How do I deploy, pull-in, or use the trotline?
A: I'm happy to help you as best I can with general instructions. Once you crab a couple times, it'll be like second nature! Just reach out to me!
Q: What is the ROI?
A: It's tough to answer, but consider that a bushel of crabs (depending on where you are and quality) will range from $150-$300 for bushel. Have you ever tried getting crabs on July 4th? That definitely put a dent in your wallet!
