This is a common and practical tool used by indigenous for handline fishing on the rivers of the rainforest in Costa Rica. Typically, fisherman have to travel far down the mountain from their village to the rivers to fish and having lighter gear is essential.
It is carved from cedar wood, which is also a common tree in their area and sustainable source of wood. During the day, these artisans spend a lot of time carving intrinsic masks and other art reflecting their ancient cultures. This fishing handline allows the artisan to combine both their artistic skills with passion and unique style of fishing.
