Pomona College students are conducting a handsinthesand research study into how human activity affects the grunion population. Tuesday night this grunion washed ashore in the high tides along Laguna Beach, partaking in a bizarre mating ritual, planting herself in the wet sand laying thousands of eggs. This grunion has completed the laying of eggs and is propelling itself from the sand headed back to the ocean. Beyond it's amorous habits, the list of what biologists understand about the sixinch silvery creature is far shorter than tallying the grunion's mysteries: what it eats, where it swims, whether it's health hints at ocean and beach wellness.
